Sacred Steel Music Live
(B N Touch Entertainment)
The vibrant music known today as “sacred steel” is rooted in the musical traditions of two related African American Holiness-Pentecostal Churches: the House of God, Keith Dominion and the Church of the Living God, Jewell Dominion. The electric lap-steel guitar was introduced into the worship services of the churches in the late 1930s and soon became the dominant musical instrument. The tradition was shaped in relative isolation by three generations of steel guitarists before it was introduced to the general public in the early 1990s. Today, the tradition is stronger than ever as seasoned veterans and fourth generations of young musicians passionately play musical praises on lap- and pedal-steel guitars at about 200 churches nationwide. Several of the best have formed groups that thrill audiences with their unique and powerful music at festivals and concerts throughout the US and Canada, as well as abroad.
